First Ride Of The Season!

So at the beginning of last week I started thinking about how Alaska had had several snowfalls above 3000’ in the mountains behind my house. The snowline was looking pretty low, so I called my good friends Brandon Burmeister and Bryan Glenn—who happens to be a great photographer—to go on an exploratory mission, wink, wink. I told them to think of it as a road trip, with sleds just in case :). Haha.
Obviously they were down, so we loaded up and drove up as far as we could possibly get the truck. Where we stopped there was about 3 inches of really wet, heavy snow, and that was just enough to ride on up to 4500ft where the snow was close to 3ft deep.
We had a great time, and it felt so good to get back on the sled again! Brandon and I were able to find enough snow for downhill turns at the highest point we could reach.
Riding early season comes with risk! Always remember that the snow is super unstable this time of year, and when it slides it goes all the way to rocks and dirt so use extreme caution! Please make sure to carry your avalanche backpack, beacon, probe and shovel!
Anyways, it was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to hear about everyone else’s first ride of the season!
