GEAR REVIEW: The Strikt FreeRide Jacket

You’re going to start seeing the name ‘Jamie Iwaschuk’ creeping into magazines and sledding flicks this fall.  Here’s his thoughts on the new Strikt Gear Company signature jacket. -ed.

Hey all you sledders out there – I’m Jamie Iwaschuk and I’m from Edson Alberta.

This year I rode my snowmobile more than ever this year and it was by far my best yet.  Fortunately, I had lots of support from my local dealer Riderz.

I also rode for a new Canadian outerwear company called Strikt Gear Company.  Strikt makes top-of-the-line sled gear and top quality MX gear, too.

This year I had their FreeRide Jacket. The jackets are amazing.  They have a perfect amount of pockets and come in awesome colours. These jackets are by far the best I have ever worn. The FreeRide jackets  are just a shell and they have lots of vents, so you don’t have to worry about overheating, especially on really hot Spring days. On the other side of the coin, my FreeRide jacket also stops the wind so I don’t have to worry about freezing my butt off on those cold early season days.

The zip off-hood makes it really nice if you use a neck brace – it doesn’t get all bunched up between your helmet and brace, like some other jackets. For me, probably the most important part of this jacket was its ability to shed the snow and water and keep me dry – there is nothing worse than being wet on the hill it can make the best days suck.

I took this gear all over this year, including a trip to Alaska for a week and a half. The gear had everyone interested in it, not only because it’s a new brand, but because it’s obviously built really well.  Other than the Alaska trip, I spent the rest of my time riding in British Columbia, trying to wear this gear out, but it is way stronger than I am!  I will be riding this gear for many years to come – that’s for sure.
