La Nina 2024 Charity Ride Raises $20K+ for the CMBGA
Sledding for a good cause is the general idea of the La Niña Charity Ride, the brainchild of Ski-Doo ambassador Nadine Overwater of Revelstoke BC. Now in its 9th year, the ride is a good-time kick-off to the season before Christmas that brings a collection of sponsors, pros, guides, media and participants all together with the focus to raise funds for a local non-profit. This year, the Canadian Motorized Backcountry Guides Association (CMBGA) was the recipient of the money, and many of their grateful alumni joined the event to volunteer.
This year 52 participants joined a host of guides and notable pros like Jay Mentaberry, Blaine Mathews, Riley Suhan, and Sam King for a romp around Boulder Mountain in Revelstoke BC. Groups were divided along the lines of ability levels before each crew set off with their guides to find their own unique spot for the day.
To make it fun, the mid-day contests this year included a timed belt change and a dead sled pull distance challenge. The winners of each contest won a special prize at the evening dinner and raffle.
The total raised came in just under $20,000 CAD, but that was with a bunch of USD that was counted at par, which we know is no where near the case at the moment. So it’s safe to say the event broke the $20K mark, which is an event record. About half this amount was raised from the donations from the participants on the ride day and the other half was from a mega raffle, which took place in the evening at the Regent Hotel in Revelstoke. The evening crowd threw down for tickets that featured swag from a huge number of sponsors including: CFR, Munster, Ski Doo, 509, Stoked, Great Canadian and many more.
