Ski-Doo Summit 850 E-TEC Turbo Revealed
Ahead of the usual spring reveal of new model year sleds, BRP has announced the world’s first factory 2-stroke turbo snowmobile. It’s called the Ski-Doo Summit 850 E-TEC Turbo, and it is essentially a turbo-charged Summit with Expert Package.
In a surprising move, BRP is calling the Summit 850 E-TEC Turbo a model year 2020 sled, and says it is available immediately in limited quantities. Woah!
The technical details of the factory modified 850 E-TEC are not available at this time, but BRP claims the engine will produce 165 horsepower all the way up to 8000 ft elevation and maintain +40 horsepower above 8000 ft.

Fuel and Tuning
BRP says the Ski-Doo 850 E-TEC Turbo will run on pump gas—premium unleaded, 91 octane fuel. The turbo system and ECU will not require any tuning.
Weight
The Ski-Doo Summit 850 Turbo will feature a one-piece lightweight hood, that will provide 6 lb of weight-savings to offset the extra addition of the turbo components. BRP says that the Summit 850 E-TEC Turbo adds just half the weight of an aftermarket turbo kit for the same engine.
SHOT Starter
The 850 Turbo will be fully compatible with Ski-Doo’s innovative SHOT starter supercapitor engine starting technology.
Shocks
The Summit 850 Turbo model will feature HPG Plus Premium shocks that use a lightweight spring technology and are Kashima-coated for superior performance.
Tunnel Length
BRP says that the 2020 Summit 850 E-TEC Turbo sled will come with a short tunnel. Although unconfirmed at this time, it seems likely to be the same short tunnel design as the 2020 Ski-Doo Summit with Expert Package. Other similarities to the Expert Package are listed, such as lower seat height, shorter riders and mountain strap and smaller diameter handlebars.
Also mentioned are the suspension revisions including spindle and ski stopper and the addition of the limiter strap adjuster.
At this time is appears that the Summit 850 E-TEC Turbo will only be available in the 165″ track length.
Details are available on the Ski-Doo website, here.
More to come, stay tuned!
