2023 Ski-Doo Summit Expert vs Edge

For model year 2023, Ski-Doo is offering five deep snow models on the all-new Gen5 platform.

So what are the sometimes subtle, sometimes significant differences between those models? This is the question we wanted to answer for Ski-Doo riders wondering what is the ideal model for their preferences, style of riding and budget.

We also wanted to show some of these differences up close and “in-person”, with detail you can’t always find in a spec sheet or a list of features.

To provide these answers, we first rode and then parked two 2023 Ski-Doo deep snow sleds—Summit X w/ Expert Package and Summit Edge—next to one another so we could visually show the features that make them handle and perform differently.

It was great for us personally to experience up close what some of the new Gen5 platform looks like and performs, and to be able to share that with our readers.

Here’s our walkaround video that explains the differences between Gen5 Summit Expert vs Edge models:

As you can see, there are a lot of changes to the Gen5 platform for model year 2023. We didn’t even cover all of those here. For more details on the Gen5 platform, check out our 2023 Ski-Doo mountain snowmobiles summary.

A few things we neglected to mention in the video are:

  1. The Summit X w/ Expert Package features an adjustable limiter strap that, when set to the short position, helps keep the skis planted to make the sled even more stable and predictable.
  2. The Summit Expert can be ordered (Spring Order only) with the Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R engine package for 180 arm-stretching horsepower. Trust us, this engine package is insanely good. The Summit Edge doesn’t have this engine option. As an in-season model, it only comes with the Rotax 850 E-TEC naturally-aspirated engine option (which, by the way, is still an amazingly strong and responsive engine).
  3. We also failed to mention that both sleds have 25 mm more travel in the re-designed tMotion rear suspensions.

Thanks for watching! And stay tuned for more model year 2023 sled insights to come.
