2023 Yamaha Mountain Snowmobiles

2023 Yamaha snowmobiles are back in the mountains with new colours for the new model year.

It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise (on the heels of the quiet MY’23 release by supply agreement partner Arctic Cat) that there’s not a whole lot of new technology to come in the 2023 Yamaha mountain snowmobiles.

Before we dive into the tech, let’s just quickly take a look at the bigger picture. By now we’re all familiar with the supply chain issues that have been the bane of all manufacturing for the better part of two years now. Guess what, even a big company like Yamaha is not immune. They, like the other snowmobile manufacturers, had trouble delivering their model year 2022 sleds on time. This is obviously not an ideal situation for the customer or the manufacturer. Long story short—they’re all doing the best they can to deal with the situation and do a better job for model year 2023.

For Yamaha, that means limiting its spring orders. That’s right, all Yamaha snowmobile models for 2023 will be capped at a limited quantity production in order to help the company better adapt to the parts and labour supply problems plaguing manufacturing. For that same reason, their Spring Power Surge order window will only last around 3 weeks this spring. So if you’re dead set on riding a new Yamaha next winter, take note and don’t drag your heels.

Taking a hit on sales in order to do a better job of timely delivery for its customers is a stand up move for a company that’s been struggling to get sleds built, so you’ve got to appreciate that.

The Mountain Max LE 154 SL ‘Super Lite’ is a sporty, lightweight version of the Mountain Max. It weighs in more than 15 lbs lighter than the Mountain Max LE 154.

This weight loss is primarily achieved by removing the starter motor and battery, and using a shorter seat. Of course this means that the Mountain Max 154 SL is manual start only.

The fuel tank is also shorter, but with pretty much the same capacity (39.7 L / 10.5 gal) due to the elimination of the battery cutout that exists in the fuel tank of the standard Mountain Max (40.1 L / 10.6 gal).

The 154 SL also uses a shorter heat exchanger that keeps weight down and results is less ice buildup (and the real-world weight associated with it).

Here are the highlights of the Mountain Max LE 154 SL (new in bold):

  • Team Yamaha Blue
  • New Snowflap for improved manoeuvrability
  • New Primary and Secondary Clutches in 2022
  • Single Rail Rear Suspension
  • Manual Start Only
  • Shorter Seat and Fuel Tank
  • Small Tunnel Bag

  • 1.5″ QS3 Front Shocks

  • 36″ Ski Stance
  • Yamaha MTN Skis

  • Lightweight Brake Disc
