Quartz Creek Cabin Renovation
Big things happened last summer in Quartz Creek near Golden BC, as the Golden Snowmobile Club’s day-use cabin saw a large renovation. The GSC, which successfully applied for a grant from the Columbia Basin Trust to renovate the cabin, hired a contractor to do significant fixing and upgrading to several areas. The Quartz Creek cabin, which was originally built in 2005 by GSC volunteers, was in sore need of repair after heavy use over the last several years. The renovation included repairs to the roof, siding and deck as well as an addition of a timber framed deck covering. Users of the cabin, which is located just below tree line in a popular sledding spot, will be happy to note that a new outhouse has also been constructed. The Quartz Creek parking lot is 35 km west of Golden BC and the cabin is fourteen km along a maintained and groomed trail. The trail is groomed from mid-November to mid-April.
“We wanted the legacy of the Quartz cabin to continue by seeing these much needed repairs and enhancements completed,” said Collin Wallace, president of the GSC. “Quartz is a special area and it was important to keep the experience level high there. Now that it’s complete, hopefully we can use GSC efforts to build some more cabins around Golden BC.”
Now the club is looking to the future; there are rumours of a new cabin going up sometime soon, with the most likely location being the Gorman Lake riding area. Stay tuned!
